The climbHe tied his boat among the rocks, and soon began to climb. Slowly, every so slowly, he went foot by foot, climbing away from shore and onto what should be called land, but really was nothing more than rocks.

When he tried to look above there was no grass of green. More and more rocks awaited our man, and still he climbed. The sun beat down, and clouds covered the top so our poor man could not see his destination, but still he climbed.

'It appears as though God has taken a day off today,' he thought to himself. And still he climbed up and up, even though the rocks were always coming.

and another paper butterfly is born.

IV drips in the hand
keeping everything in place
while the cuts and tears and folds
keeps going on.

One thousand, six hundred and sixty six.

That's the number
she was told to make.

and shown her how to make them
but she had only made thirty out of the

and contains more than you think.

So much thought
is going into this poem
to many words
and so many emotions
that it's almost hard
for the poet
to capture it in a few words.

This poem has a deep meaning
that you will feel is just out of your grip
and it shall be misheard and misread in its time.

For now though,
this is just a poem
that is full of rhythm
and words too big to pronounce.

Victim of a John DoeDo you want to hear the story
of how I died?
I promise it won't be boring
so if you would
just take a seat, have a drink
and listen.

Past memories reach,
I met the most amazing man
who spun words of silver and gold
with a tongue more fine than silk.

He told me he could do no wrong
and I, young and foolish, believed him.

And when we went home,
his eyes shining with new excitement,
things were perfect.

Then it shattered.

Nothing more intense
than feeling my own blood
trickle down my body.

Cruciation
stares traveling down
blood spattered knife
a gaping wound

cries of shock
gleaming white smile
solid drops of blood

Bright pink lips,
booty shorts,
a bikini top.

She gestures wildly,
beckoning every person
to have a dance with her.

Another drink goes down
and I'm pulled into her dance
where hips thrust wildly
and hands roam everywhere.

Yet when lips meet,
it's hollow and broken
sloppy and careless
no spark or real feelings.

I don't walk away
or even pull apart.
Our limbs mesh together more
and even though it's full of sweat
and nothing more than heat
I cannot bring myself to turn away.

This Siren has captured me,
and for the rest of the night
I'm hers.
DystopiaDirty water,
corrupted laughter,
cracked dreams,
and broken seams.

Cries in the night
as life becomes a fight
there's just no more light.

Men are trying,
women are running
children are crying
people are dying.

Let's go, he whispered.
I-It's dangerous, she stuttered.
But we can't just stay, they uttered.

Chaos roams the streets
and blood's on the ground like treats.

Dystopia never ends
as society bends.
Life shall be dystopia
and never a utopia.
The Caged Birds SongFor the caged bird
sings of freedom.

The caged bird sings
to hear his own songs.

For in all the twitters and tweets,
and in the cries and screams,

the caged bird sings
to hear the song of freedom
that it shall never know.

The caged bird has no use for words
or shouts of anger and sobs of terror.

The caged bird only needs its song.

Through bars and glass
the caged bird sings its song

and the caged bird and I,
we sing together,
because we are not free
in mind and soul
but together we are free
in song.
That Kinda GirlI'm that kinda girl you'll always see—
sitting quietly, there on the ebony edge.
Legs crossed and arms blissfully relaxed,
in the corner of this coffee-stricken Starbucks.

My dark hair is thick and loose today,
my maple eyes are lowered, and gently burning, burning.
These white jeans may be stained today,
the pleasant color of crimson-red; who knows?

And I'm that kinda girl who sits quite far away,
I observe, then hurriedly bend to write my thoughts.
And as I bend I pour my utmost love,
all my love, into this breathing, desperate poem.
JoyOne magical summer was all it took
For me to fall in love with you
I was no longer a closed book
I finally found someone I could talk to.

Picnics in the middle of the forest
Flowers in my hair
A thousand vows we promised
Never each other's happiness to impair.

We stand peering into the lake
My reflection always right next to yours
Nothing on Earth could ever break
Our eternal love on these shores.

The enchanting summer of 2012
The season that changed my life
With you into another world I would delve
A world completely absent of strife.

And now I confidently beside you stand
Beautifully adorned in my ivory dress
Our futures a
SilenceThey say speaking is silver and silence is gold,
In some cases it might be true.
But there is also a truth that goes untold,
Even if it might be quite blue.

Silence is sometimes bad,
Not always so don't get upset.
Some things that are evil can make us go mad,
Some things that are even a threat.

Even if your enemies will make your blood boil,
The silence of your friends will be what hurts you more.
Words might hurt us, but silence can torment us.
The Envious MoonThe moon's envious glow,
is nothing more, than the suns bright rays
shinning back from a gray face.

The loneliest person in the world,
she can only reflect what others disperse
and never show her own light.

Sometimes though, she gets her desires
to change the light she reflects
and becomes orange or red.

It never lasts though.

She finds solace in her reflection
to know that she is actually there,
and to feed what little pride she has.

And the moon sits alone
never to have company.
Only her mournful shriek her only sound.

She can never be the one
who provides light and comfort.

The most she can do

Truly an object of mystique and mystery
A simple device, with a painted layer
That conceals a face of rotting worms

Oh, I'm sorry, was I supposed to overlook it?
Let me rephrase it in a more appropriate manner
You are a cowardly, pathetic, miserable, filthy
Unintelligent, soul-sucking, perfidious, bag of rotting worms

You who once held my respect, you who were once my friend
you shared in my secrets and you shared in my dreams
But in the end, it was the lies
The horrible, filthy lies that spew forth from your tainted lips...

I guess it was a simple decision
I had no need to keep up this facade

The house on the hillUp on a hill there lived a house,
in that house lived an old man.

He had lived his long life
and had lived in that house his entire life.

He didn't have family
and stayed on the porch every day.

When the children would come
he would give out candy apples and sweets.

The children loved the nice old man
who lived on the hill.

Then the man on the hill
passed away and went to a better place.

The once great house,
faded from thoughts
as the town still grew below it.

Once shiny windows,
and flawless paint,
faded and became aged.

The garden once taken care of,
with wrinkled old hands,
became overcome with weeds.

Lovely AnneI once met a girl named Anne
and what a lovely girl was she.
She sat in corners and talked
and talked when no one listened.

While lovely Anne was so lovely
no one went near lovely Anne
and her never-ending talking.

Lovely Anne with black hair
and dark skin. Never listened
to the voice of society.

Lovely Anne talked of a world
so unlike our own.
No one went near her,
but everyone listened
to the thoughts of a wonderful world.

Lovely Anne lived in a world
where the clocks struck thirteen
where everyone loved
where everyone smiled
and tears were never shed.

The walls and floors
objects and papers
that she talked to day
She had never thought of herself as brokenShe had never thought of herself as broken,
as missing, as unfinished, as incomplete.
She used to think she was complete, accomplished;
her flaws hidden, her heart healed and soul varnished.
Her Creator had made her independent -
she did not need her "other half" to be whole.

However

When he left, a cold hand wrapped around her heart;
she ached, trapped under the weight of missing him.
She craved his presence, his arms around her waist,
his hands in her hair, his eyes locked on to hers.
She realized she'd simply been fooling herself -
He was her "other half", a 'yin' to her 'yang'.

As the music plays without a hitch
she moves around and dances with grace.

The men trade and all night they dance
the light of candles casting great shadows.

The beauty of her is greater than all
coming forth when she dips low in elegance.

The men dance and the women envy
and the elegant girl has a mask of ink.

The calls of night are too great to hold
and she slips away when the music is gone.

Men disperse but women still talk
elegance of woman is nothing to be heard.

The girl is gone but the music still echoes
before tomorrow even dawn the rumors start.

Through a gap in the fence

Through a gap in the fence
they saw each other.

Drawings on the walls
for messages of love.

Images don't matter anymore
as words are the only thing
that can travel
through that gap in the fence.

Whispers of love
and no one else cares.

Still they have not seen each other
through the small gap in the fence,

But of course
all good things must end.

The gap was closed
and their love was lost.

As time erases
their love was lost
and the lovers who met
through a gap in the fence
never got to whisper
their sweet nothings to each other
through a gap in the fence again.

This is a beautiful poem, which I find distinguishes itself not only through the fluidity with which it enters the mind(to the point where the fact that it's a free-verse poem ceases to block reading in any way, which is quite often the case), but also the image it evokes: two lovers whose feelings for each other are based on everything but appearance.

The message sent, after this, is a bittersweet one: true love doesn't take appearance into account, but rather is based on communication and honesty(and it's easier to be honest when you're unseen). It can, however, be lost, and while looks don't need to figure into this sentiment, physical closeness(as in a caress, an embrace, or even eye contact) can be what makes it last.

In conclusion, I have nothing to object to this wonderful work of art. The impact and the image it evokes feel like a dream that is starting to fade from my memory, but remains as strong as ever.

I love how I can visualize everything you are saying. How the reader can perfectly imagine everything going on between them. The originality is pretty creative, but I can't say I have never seen anything like this before. Your technique, pretty main frame, see around the block kind of thing. Impact, was amazing, you can imagine how they feel and maybe sometimes even relate onto what is happening. Over all I think this is a great little read, that just about anyone would enjoy in there free time. Its cute, adorable and I wish you luck in your contest your entering it in. -Peyton
